food poisoning.

a nice little bonus summer activity i can now cross off my list. i still feel like crap, but the chills/sweats/chills/sweats fever is gone so i’m back at work. i pretty much slept straight from 10:30 yesterday morning until 6:30 this morning, waking only to tell the husband, twitter and Tova how awful i felt. (and she left a care package on my porch that i discovered this morning. some gatorade and some upset-stomach friendly foods. i am touched. that might be the best gift i’ve ever gotten)

i did find myself a 3-pound silver lining, though.

(dear scale, good morning. i love you today! love, ali)

and if any one of you fuckers wants to give me the speech about how that three pounds will just pile back on once i start eating properly again, you’ll be getting a stab in the throat. let me have something please!

the kids are cheeseheading it up at my mom’s place in Wisconsin

and have already exhausted my mom. my stepdad. my brother. they have done the state fair, a discovery museum, they’ve gone boating on my parents’ lake, and have visited toys r us more times that i they care to count.

(ps. am crying about Brett Favre. how can he possibly play anywhere but Green Bay? it’s total sacrilege)

so…seeing as how i’m beginning to feel a little bit better…and i still have FIVE days alone… (better make it four, still feeling a little woozy today) i ask you..

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

i’m just so used to my glamorous life of the work thing, the running errands thing,  the dinner thing, the homework thing, the breaking up a million and one fights thing, the bedtime thing, and then the collapse-because-i’m-so-tired thing in front of Six Feet Under thing.

i don’t know how to do the single girl in the city thing…and even though we were going to take pictures on MyLittlePony parker’s front steps, if you haven’t noticed, i’m NO Carrie Bradshaw.

ps. please don’t tell me to sit around and watch TLC all day, because seriously, in New York, Charna, Joe, and i sat glued to the tv watching this episode about a primordial dwarf and we.couldn’t.turn.away. it was the saddest and most fascinating thing i have seen in a long time.

  1. Wow – 5 days ALONE! After spending the long weekend at a cottage with my kids I REALLY WISH I was you! Did I mention – my 4 year old – doesn’t listen to me – AT ALL!!! I would definitely meet a different friend for dinner at a different restaurant every night. Then I would sleep…

  3. I saw that show. I totally agree. And in some strange sort of coincidence I have been struggling with a stomach bug for the last few days. OMG. Other then the weight loss (which really should be permanent) it has really sucked.

    Your kids are way adorable.

  4. For those remaining days I wouldn’t even turn the TV on. Put on some of your favorite tunes and turn it way up loud. Enjoy some chill time, baths, patio/porch sitting, read a book. Enjoy the quiet generated without the rugrats!

  5. Go get a pedicure, take a walk, go see a movie. Eat out at all kinds of new restaurants that are not even remotely kid-friendly.

And the whole Favre saga? I’m disappointed. It’s a no-win situation for both him and the Packers, regardless of the outcome.

  6. I hope you feel better soon.

I was wondering how you’d handle the Favre thing, and seeing three kids all in GB #4 jerseys pretty much summed it up for me. It’s going to be a different experience; that’s for sure.

  11. Brett Favre should have stayed retired. If he goes and plays somewhere else, he’s going to suck and THAT’S what people are going to remember him for.

Oh, and also for being a whiny bitch and un-retiring.

(This is not said as a Bears fan. I’m actually like the one Bears fan who loves and respects Favre.)

  12. That reminds me of the Devil Wears Prada quote:
“I’m one stomach flu away from my ideal weight!” As much as I hate getting sick, I kinda love that it’s an easy diet. Hope you feel better!

  13. You know if those idiots running the show at Green Bay wouldn’t have pushed him to retire before he was ready none of this would be happening. I love Green Bay and I adore Brett Favre and it’s sad to me that this whole saga will forever be a part of his legacy.

Food poisoning is a huge fear of mine. No amount of pounds are worth all that puking! (At least I know I’ll never be Bulemic, eh?) Feel better Ali!

When I’m alone (not that it ever happens!) I get crafty. I dig out all my crafty crap and make something, just because I can do so without 4 extra hands for once. How lame is that?

  17. I hope you weren’t stricken with the food sickness on your flight back!

Here’s what I did on my three days alone. Nothing. In between the nothing, I danced wildly in my living room sans pants. Read. Watched cheesy movies. Oh, and I bawled like a baby when my kids called me. I do suggest the random dancing, though! (OMG, your kids?! GORGEOUS!!)

  20. I have recently discovered the joy of going to the movies alone. I don;t have to wrangle anyone through ticket and concession lines. I can sit where I want. No one wants my popcorn or twizzlers. no one needs to be shushed or asks what is going on. I can see a grown up movie and stay for the whole thing!!!!

    It was SOOO worth it.

I USUALLY do brunch, movie, cafe…but you could look for a flea market, farmers market, gallery that’s not kid friendly, somewhere you can wander SLOWLY and pick things up without worrying if someone is getting into something behind you.
