i hate manicures and pedicures.
seriously.
the entire experience. having someone massaging your hands and (ew) feet. that cheese grater tool they use…what the fuck IS that thing anyway? having to choose your colors without any guidance…there’s a friggin’ wall of choices, how am i supposed to pick one? from the non-english speaking…it’s straight out of that episode of Seinfeld…”The Korean women were talking about me. I think they were calling me a dog.” (hahaha) the sitting around and waiting.
the entire experience just skeeves me out. but, there are times when these things must be done. weddings. trips to St. Lucia. trips to San Francisco for blogher (especially when you are the only person showing up with a lovely head of roots and no new shoes)
so, i made a 4:45 appointment yesterday. i was going to pop a xanax and beautify my extremities. (being a woman seriously sucks sometimes)
i walked in. didn’t understand a word they said. finally figured out i need to go choose my colors. you can do this ali. finally picked one. it’s awesome. it’s called “met on the internet” (the irony? kills me…since i’m about to travel to San Fransisco to meet a whole bunch of amazing people that i met on the internet. i’m not linking. there are too many. but you know who you are.)
and then i sat. and sat. and sat some more.
finally, at 5:15 (keep in mind my appointment was 4:45. that’s half an hour) some dude calls me over and says
“manicure?”
“yes. and pedicure too.”
“manicure?”
“yes.”
“manicure?”
and then all 50 people in there start flipping out and yelling at each other in an asian language? japanese? korean? hell, if i know. i was scared.
“oh, no, not you. you next. this woman first”
“but my appointment was 4:45″
“manicure?”
“yes. and pedicure”
“manicure?”
“yes, do you know when i will actually be seen?”
“um..manicure?”
and that was when i walked out of the store. said gofuckoffee and left.
if there’s one thing i dislike more than manicures…it’s having to be kept waiting. yes, i understand that my OB is going to be late sometimes…because he does something like DELIVER BABIES. and i understand my friends are going to be late sometimes because they are my friends (all my friends are late)
but i am paying someone for a service. i called and made an appointment. i asked to come in at 4:30 and he said 4:45. agreed. i should not be seen any later than 4:55.
so, i’ve sworn off Infinity Nails forever. and i went home and hauled out a gift i once got that i was 100% certain i would never use and went to town…
it may not be the BEST pedicure in the world. and it may not be the color i wanted. but at least i didn’t have to wait for it. and there was no CHEESE GRATER involved. or any Korean. also, hello, FREE!
and now all i have to do is pack for this trip…
help me. i’ve since added another dress, pair of shoes, and little sweater.
and a light jacket…because everyone said i need one.
2 dresses. 2 cardigans.
4 skirts. 5 pairs of shoes.
2 pairs yoga pants. 2 t-shirts. 3 camis. one hoodie
2 pairs of jeans. one pair of pants.
8 shirts. 1 jacket.
too much for 3 days in SF???
