I am a girl who likes sports.

i realize this is not a newsflash. you read suffered with me this year while my favrette and i watched our dreams of Superbowl XLII die a slow, painful death.

you suffered with me while i watched my dreams of a San Antonio NBA final win die a slow death (and you laughed when i admitted to wearing a giant leather Spurs jacket in high school…)

football, basketball, hockey, even soccer.

but baseball? for me…the only thing i like about going to baseball games is the BEER. and no, i will NEVER be able to drink more beer than the lovely Kristabella

it’s just so SLOOOOOOOOOOOW.

okay, i lie. it’s not JUST the beer. We enjoyed the free tide-to-go.

and the blue ICEEs

and, of course, there was dancing.

oh, yes, she DID have an entire blue ICEE. how could you tell??!

oh, and also…this is BIG news. BIG. HUGE. i announced it on Twitter but twitter’s been a little under-the-weather lately.

i had my first hot dog in 23 years.

let me say that again.

TWENTY-THREE YEARS!

and it was divine.

oh, yes…

please note this little disclaimer: i have nothing against vegetarians. i loves me some vegetarians. i respect their decisions. you hear that PETA? don’t throw things at me. please.

i just loves me some meat

…and cue the dirty google searches. bwah.

  2. Ali-

I have subscription to mlb.tv, and they have something called a condensed game. It’s the last pitch of every batter- ball 4, strike 3, or contact.

Every morning I watch yesterday’s Yankee game, and it takes 10-20 minutes.

  6. Never ever would I “correct” your grammar to be even more incorrect, but the saying is:

    I loves me some…

as in “I loves me some Cheaper Than Therapy.”

    cuz i do.

  11. I love hot dogs. They taste the BEST at the ballpark. And probably for reasons I DON’T want to know about.

I like that baseball games are slow. You can drink and chat with your friends and drink some more and not really miss anything at all.

  17. At Dodger stadium they now have an all you can eat ticket where, for $35 bucks, you could have, say, forty hot dogs at one game if you could stomach it. I’m not saying you’re suddenly THAT into hot dogs, but I thought I’m mention the option!

I STILL crave two meats… profusely. That would be bacon and hotdogs. And if I were sitting next to you while you ate that bad boy i would have pestered you for a indepth play by play of the ENTIRE experience.

  24. I was a vegetarian for 15 years as a teenager and younger adult. Then one night, I was out with friends at a chinese restaurant. They were chowing down on some spareribs. And, I mean chowing done with abandon. I picked one up and went at it! I gave up being a veg for a porky red goodie bar.

am i going to hell for that?

  28. Oh Ali. You lived in Milwaukee, home of the bratwurst. You lived in Chicago, home to Polish Sausage. And yet, in none of those cities did you enjoy those famous cased meats. You had to go all the way to Canada to have a hot dog.

That almost makes the move north worthwhile. Almost.

  29. I’m pretty sure that you can eat hot dogs and still be considered a vegetarian. I think the rule is that the food product has to have an ingredient list shorter than Pledge of Allegiance before it is consider to truly be meat.

Watching baseball is about as much fun as watching a bunch of guys stand around and scratch themselves. What? Oh, yeah, that IS what baseball is. *yawn*

  37. I love baseball games, but you’re right, baseball is slow. Good thing I don’t go for the game, huh? I love the hot guys in tight pants, the people watching, the smell of hot summer nights and hot dogs and beer. Baseball is all wrapped up in memories of family vacations and all the best things about summer.

Congrats on the hot dog, ball park hot dogs are the best!

Just wanted to let you know that you are on my list of people to meet at Blogher, but don’t worry, it’s only stalking in the mildest form of the word. 😉

And I’m so with you on the sports front — though I’m more of a college football and basketball gal (go Vols! go Lady Vols!). However, baseball? Will never understand it. Other than the beer part. And I really don’t like beer that much in the first place (can we still be friends?).
