having best friends with a pool is amazing. especially when summer weather FINALLY hits us (love. i love love love love the heat. love it. 90. 95. 100. 105. bring it. i bask in it. seriously.) so, we went over this weekend all prepped and ready for a day at the pool. 5 suits. 5 towels. 5 pairs of flip flops. 5 pairs of sunglasses. 5 changes of clothing. 5 cover ups. one giant bottle of this

(that would be THIRTY FIVE. not 4. not 8. 35!)

4 hours of swimming. with my daughter Isabella who doesn’t know how to swim but *thinks* she knows how. yeah, that was fun. with my tankini top (whatever, so not bikini-ready yet!) that somehow didn’t fit right. i SWEAR. all day i was so afraid i was going to pop a nipple out. and i’m pretty sure it popped out at least once. or twice. yeah, that was fun too. (i even criss-crossed the straps in the hopes that it would keep the girls in check…)

and somehow i still ended up with this…

SUNBURN.

ouch.

and we’re not even going to talk about what my nose looks like today…

  7. Whatever.

I don’t want to hear whining about sunburn until you have to start putting sun block on your head because your hair is thinning.

I’m not a vain guy but damn, my pride’s a little bruised after this weekend.

  8. It hurts just looking at it! Definitely coat yourself in aloe! You poor thing, I hope you don’t end up with a peeling nose! Nothing like walking around looking like a lush for a week only to have skin peeling off for another few days! heh

  11. I’m the same way! If I spent that much time in the sun in a vat of sunblock, I’d still get burnt. And my burns never turn to a lovely shade of brown. They go right back to bright white.

  12. Um, yeah, I’m not even going to pretend to not be jealous, because you I would trade my right arm for 90 degrees right now. Us Southern girls need our heat, you know how this is. And a pool? Whereas everyone I know in Tennessee has one, that’s a foreign concept out in SF. Sigh. At least we have the ocean; it’s only too bad the water temp never rises above 50…

  28. OK, I think I need to give you a lesson in sunscreen. That SPF number is relative to how quickly you burn normally and there is a lot of techy stuff in there, but the main point is you are supposed to REAPPLY at LEAST every 2 hours and MORE when you are getting wet, like in a POOL.

    Just sayin.

  29. Oh, and it’s way late for this, but the best help for sunburn is obviously aloe for the surface, but ibuprofen helps heal it the quickest from the inside.
