i have officially been banned from the hair clippers.

Josh’s hair was, once again, out of control. the sideburns. the sideburns! i couldn’t even see his ears anymore. and while it’s all well and good that he wants to look like this…

(ps. i think Zac Efron is hot. i’ve been in denial about this for quite some time. because, dude? he wears manpris and pink shoes. but alas, HOT)

…i have neither the stylists nor the time to coif the child’s hair every day. so, i was alone in the house with Josh, and we were both kinda sorta bored, so i thought..

Eureka! i’ll trim the burns.

so, i trimmed ‘em. and then i trimmed them some more. and then i decided the rest of the hair could use some, um, cutting. and even though i’d never actually used clippers before, i’d seen it done many a time…how hard could it be??

well, one crack at his head with what i didn’t realize was a 2...and the child was left with this. giant. hole.

you’d NEVER notice that, right???? right?

well…Horton Hears a Who and some brand new goldfish later (i’m all about the bribes…there’s NO shame in it!)…

(meet Megan, JoJo and crap…i can’t remember Isabella’s fish’s name… mother of the year right here..NOAH. it’s Noah, even if i had to call the husband to find out what it was…)

i let the husband fix the hair

but not before forever banning me from the clippers. ouch. that stings.

  3. A couple weeks ago Mike went to get his hair cut and there was a man getting his hair cut at the same time.
The “stylist” made the exact same mistake you did and the poor guy looked horrible and they ended up shaving most of his hair.
I felt so bad for him – especially since he looked like he was going to cry.
The funniest part was the lady said “don’t worry I won’t charge you.” and the guy was like “it’s 15 bucks. I don’t care about the money but you ruined my hair.”
Mike and I could hardly hold in the laughter. It looked terrible

  6. My husband MAKES me clip my son’s hair (which isn’t too bad, but I keep it quite short so it’s easy) and has recently started torturing me by forcing me to do his as well! I am sooo nervous when I do his hair! It usually turns out ok. Which is not to say fantastic. But I hope with lots of practice, to get better. But still, I’d so rather have him go to a professional. Sigh…

  7. I once shaved a whole in my son’s hair that was SO BAD that my husband just calmly shaved the poor Boy’s head entirely. He looked AWFUL. And now we just take him to the barber once a month, despite our legendary cheapness.

  13. How sad is it that I thought it was the guy from Gossip Girl and not Zac Efron?

Actually, upon further review, that is not sad at all.

  15. I am convinced that stuff like this is why the mowhawk seems so popular with little kids. You just know someone screwed up the DIY haircut and that’s where Junior got his coolness from.

  16. Could’ve been worse: it could have been your husband’s hair, and you could have gone straight to the scalp in portions.

(Not that I’d know anything about that.)

  19. If I had had a boy and a girl, I always imagined when the little boy would go to the barber shop every weekend with my husband to get his high and tight, lol. But, alas…I had two little girls, so I don’t need to think about that! Lol.

P.S. Zac is a hottie, with killer eyes. *metls* Lol!!

  21. You know, Alex’s hair grows insanely fast, and I’m forever tempted to do little “touch-ups” between haircuts. I’m going to remember this post as a cautionary tale, should the itch ever strike again. :)

  22. Your post reminded me why I am not allowed near the clippers. We actually threw them away (not we…I wanted to keep them…) I was doing my husbands hair for his 2 week summer camp in the army…how hard can that be? Yeah. There wasn’t a blade cover on the clippers…so, I got a little close. I noticed my mistake instantly…and fixed the clippers…he didn’t notice the mistake until later, in the mirror. Also, any time I would go after the kids with the clippers (very accurate description of what was taking place) they would scream their heads off. Paying 12$ for a haircut and a lolly pop is well worth it…so I don’t have to hear the screaming.

  23. You have to read Henry and Ribsy. Henry’s mom does the exact same thing to him, and for the exact same reason. I swear I thought you were quoting the book.
I cut my sons hair, with the #2 comb. I am too cheap to pay for a haircut. Bad Mom. ‘Course I was too cheap to pay for my hair to get cut so on of my BFF’s came over and we drank scotch and she cut my hair. Ugh. It was not good.
    I paid the next time.
