maybe my nanny Haydee always sings and dances when she makes her coffee in the morning.

or maybe she’s just happy that JLo and Marc Anthony finally had those babies and we can stop hearing that she’s been in labor every single day for the last month.
or maybe she’s happy that it’s snowing in Toronto. for the 90th day in a row.
or maybe she called it that Kate’s baby was Aaron.
or maybe, just, maybe…she’s excited that we are all gone. and she has the day off…and is hosting a giant nanny house-sitting party. those nannies really know how to party it up.
the husband and the kids are on their way to Montreal for the weekend (my god, he should be given a medal. taking three kids away. by himself. well, he took his mother with him, and she’s probably way more help than i’d ever be…but still! credit!)Â in true Martell fashion, it’s only 8:25 and Isabella’s had to pee twice and she lost her gloves and josh has no boots. (did i mention it’s snowing?)
and i’m on my way to NYC.
for the weekend. by myself.

no husband. no kids. i get to go through security alone! i don’t have to take 45 minutes to take off everyone’s shoes and then put them back on again and fold up the stroller and TRY to shove it through on the belt. i can park my ass on a chair in the airport and read my book…which, incidentally, is a GREAT one…
…especially if you possess ANY obsessive compulsive tendencies. if you’ve ever smelled the milk in the fridge, or flushed public toilets with your feet, or ate a diet coke popsicle because it was a zero-calorie trest, or knew anyone who was religious, or had a bat-mitzvah…this book is a must-read.
anyway, back to me. because, really, it’s all about me.
i can listen to my ipod…and not have to hand one of my earbuds over to miss emily and put on the shit pop music she listens to.
i can have a drink without it being spilled on me.
i can make it through a flight without taking someone to the bathroom. twice.
and that, folks, is just the flight.Â
we’re not even going to get into the sleeping in. or the shopping. or the eating in restaurants without chasing after someone (hello, Nobu, i’ve missed you!). or my rendezvous with Metalia.
(also, perhaps that nicest part of the trip is that this morning i weighed 9 pounds less than the last time my sister saw me in a dressing room.)
