13 of the most un-buyable onscreen couples

it’s always about CHEMISTRY. always. movies and tv shows are supposed to make us believe that these relationships are real. Sometimes they work. think: Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally. perfect. or Captain Von Trapp and Maria in The Sound of Music. they are oozing with chemistry.

sometimes, though, it just doesn’t work.

1. Nicole Kidman and Jude Law in Cold Mountain.

2. Aladdin and Princess Jasmine in Aladdin

3. Katie Holmes and Christian Bale in Batman Begins

4. Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy in Pretty in Pink

5. Lea Thompson and Howard the Duck in Howard the Duck

6. Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets

7. Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen in Star Wars: Episode II

8. Ralph Macchio and Elisabeth Shue in Karate Kid

9. Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes in Maid in Manhattan

10. Julia Roberts and Jude Law and Julia Roberts and Clive Owen in Closer

11. Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn in The Interpreter

12. Matthew McConaughney and Jodie Foster in Contact

13. Paul Reubens and Valeria Golino in Big Top Pee Wee

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!! mwah!

Now head on over to my other site, Juice, where I’m counting down my 13 movie couples with the most chemistry.

You can post a comment, or trackback from your site.

I can’t believe I’m not the only person who did not buy the Closer love triangle! That movie annoyed me so much! Thanks Ali!

LOL - ah, Closer. What a strange flick!

Helen and Jack - ew.

Happy Luv Day! :)

Sarah Jessica Parker and Luke Wilson in the family Stone AND Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey in Failure to Launch. Her characters in both these movies were so annoying that I couldn’t believe that either of these men would want to be with her.

Helen Hunt and anybody, really. Great post! I liked the one posted at Juice, too. When do you find the time? Heh.

Actually, some of those couples fall into the “what were they thinking?!” category.

Notice the theme with Nicole Kidman? I didn’t think she had any chemistry with Tom Cruise, either…and she was MARRIED to the guy.

I would have to say howard the duck and peewee…why anyone would want to be involved with either is beyond me. lol

Happy TT!!

Paul Ruebens and anyone with a pulse is bad chemistry as far as I’m concerned.

I loved Closer…even though I agree with you, the chemistry wasn’t there — but somehow, it worked for that movie.

Haven’t seen most of these, but agree with the ones on both lists that I’ve seen. Kidman & anyone? Nope!Katie Holmes and Sarah Jessica ditto!

Hmmm… I have to agree with you overall on these choices, but I distinctly remember thinking that the love scene in Cold Mountain was so hot! I really liked that movie (but yeah, I guess they were kind of weird together). Also, Helen Hunt is one of my most-hated actresses.

[ 14 Feb 08 ]

Lol.. so true.
However I like Aladdin & Jasmine!

Ha, Ha! That was funny although pee-wee totally freaks me out! Nicole Kidman will never have the same chemistry she had with Tom Cruise. Poor Nicole…..

[ 15 Feb 08 ]

Oh so true, especially Matthew and Jodie.

Oh dear, I haven’t seen any of those except Closer, and I find Julia Roberts so repellent that I could never see any chemistry between her and anyone else.

I absolutely agree with every couple.

And I’m saddened to say I’ve wasted hours in my life by watching every single one of these damn movies and more.

I don’t even want to know what that says about my life…
