December 14 07

from here on out, the Friday Smackdown will be hanging out over here.

so, go there. now!

while you’re over there trying to figure out what the hell this is:

i’ll be over here trying to gather up $38.70 in exact cash currency. because that’s how much i have to pay for my department holiday lunch today. (i so wish i was kidding) and that doesn’t even include the $20 kris kringle gift i had to buy (and because i’m lazy and don’t care enough, the lucky person will be getting a $20 Old Navy gift card. watch me get a Celine Dion cd in return. just. my. luck.)

I know what you’re thinking…who has to PAY for their department holiday lunch…AND why couldn’t we pay with a check…AND who the hells carries around exactly $38.70 in cash?? i actually had to go to Tim Hortons today and pay with a strange amount of money to get the change i wanted in return. the server thought i was a loon…but little does she know that i’m the sane one…and it’s my department that’s loony.

so, enough about me…go check in on your favorite tv shows and your favorite stars.

  2. I once threw my niece’s Celine Dion CD out the window of my car when she put it in my CD player. She KNEW I hated Celine Dion! So now her CD is somewhere between PA and SC along I-95.

  3. You have to pay for your department Christmas lunch? That’s bizarre. We have ours today too. But, it’s the whole company. We had our group lunch on Tuesday.
And, we did away with the Kris Kringle gifts. I think that’s cause everyone hates each other right now (seriously) and we’d buy mean $20 gifts.
I don’t think a $20 Old Navy gift card is bad. I think a christmas mug with a stuffed bear is bad.

  4. I’d be ecstatic if I landed a $20 Old Navy card from a work gift exchange. I mean the probability of bad giftage is so high in that situation. $20 at a store I actually shop at would feel like I hit the jackpot.

And I’m afraid when the dinner costs me more than I had to spend on the gift, I’d be tempted to drop off my gift, grab one for myself, and leave. Better yet, take your lunch hour and go to Old Navy with your $20 and skip the whole thing! lol

  5. When I first started at working, my company paid for not only dinner (with an open bar thankyouverymuch) but also a room at the resort where they held the event. For example, you’d drive up to Blue Mountain, or the Briars, or wherever on Saturday afternoon, then check in and shower, then hit the party, then hit the boss’ suite for the after-party, then crash. The next morning everyone would get breakfast (part of the package) and head home. They of course invited spouses, and even had childcare for the little ones. THAT was a holiday party.

My current company? We have a lunch at a restaurant. No spouses, no kids, but at least they pay.

  8. I don’t think I could even eat lunch after seeing that picture. Is that someone’s tummy? I’ve had 2 kids and mine looks bad, but at least it doesn’t look like aliens moved in!

  14. Wow. That makes my holiday lunch sound awesome… and our post lunch “entertainment” was Israeli folk dancing… and our bonus was a donation, in our name, to a charity I don’t endorse.
    Whoohoo! Party on!
Hope the lunch was good at least!

  15. That seems very expensive for a lunch. I have to pay for mine too, but it’s just 10 dollars. The intern who was figuring it out seemed to think she could swing if for 9. For the sake of change, we told her to give it to charity or whatever.

I’m interested to hear what you got….

  18. Ewwww for the photo…

And the work lunch? I stopped going to those and Christmas parties years ago. I have better things to spend my time and money on, and I don’t care a whit what any co-worker thinks.
