…at some point in my life. because, apparently, someone thought they were cool. and i thought i was too..

1. the joey jeremiah hat

2. the jelly shoe

3. the oversized flannel shirt

4. the tight-rolled jean

5. the sweater tied around the shoulder

6. the biker short

(still looking for a good photo)

7. the overalls

8. the doc marten

9. the bangs

10. the hypercolor t-shirt

11. the converse all-star

12. the “Rachel”

13. the leg warmers

what about you????

-
  1. neon colours circa 1989/90, stirrup pants and sweater dresses. so sad. so bad. although i suspect i will one day laugh at my yoga pants and flip flops. oh and scrunchies in my hair. {shudder}

Comment by Steph on October 25, 2007
  2. Um, I think I may have the Rachel now. And I loved jelly shoes!

I also had the bangs like no one’s business – I AM a jersey girl!

Comment by AndreAnna on October 25, 2007
  3. OK, you guys can give it up on this one because I have you all beat.

    Wait for it….wait for it…

    Hammer Pants.

    Yes, I am so ashamed.

Comment by AJ on October 25, 2007
  4. LOVED Joey Jeremiah! AND wore the hat. Also did the tight rolled jeans. I avoided jelly shoes lie the plague. Everyone else wore them, but apparently my tastes were more refined. 😉 Might have done the sweater tied around the shoulder thing in the 3rd grade, when my best friend was super-prep. Didn’t do the bangs; did the feathering thing instead – just as scary. My baby girl (age 1) currently owns the cutest little hot pink Converse high tops.

Comment by JMC on October 25, 2007
  5. I wore all of these. Also: puffy-sleeved shirt that buttoned up the side; skinny leather tie (red); and the bangs were the finishing touch to my spiral perm. *shudder*

Comment by LoriD on October 25, 2007
  6. I still wear Cons – I have low black, high green, red, monochrome, black, and candycane striped!

Comment by Dory on October 25, 2007
  7. I had such a system for the tight rolled jeans (Levi’s of course) – sometimes took me a couple of tries to get it just right!

Comment by Teri on October 25, 2007
  8. All but the Rachel.

    And still the Chucks.

Oh…how bout the “Madonna” get up?

    Comment by ~JJ! on October 25, 2007
  9. How can it be that I am guilty on all fronts? I would also like to add…shoulderpads. What could I possibly have been thinking???

Comment by Cynthia on October 25, 2007
  10. Holy crap. Guilty on all except doc martens. And my Converse were those pink on one side, purple on the other ones. Niiiiiicccce. Except my bangs were much bigger than that picture. And stiffer. And could probably qualify as a lethal weapon.

Comment by Sadie on October 25, 2007
  11. I think your list is pretty comprehensive. The things there that I haven’t worn I wanted to wear. 🙂

Comment by Shannon on October 25, 2007
  12. Oh- forgot something else- those hideous blouses where the sleeves were see-through black material. Yikes.

Comment by Steph on October 25, 2007
  13. Please don’t tell me you are insinutating that the oversized flannel is no longer in, because you will pry mine from my cold, dead hands. (And I’m wearing my low-cut white converse sneakers today!)

Never did the jelly shoes, tho, and can’t fathom the idea of crocs. Plastic and shoes just don’t go together in my book!

Comment by DaniGirl on October 25, 2007
  14. Oh, ALL of them, sadly. Except for the bangs. Hairspray was banned in my house. And I didn’t do the Rachel because I was deep in a hippy girl phase at the time. But otherwise…
I’m looking for legwarmers for my girls – any idea where I could find some?

Comment by Rebecca on October 25, 2007
  15. What about safety pinning your jeans so they’d be tighter.. if you couldn’t get the ones with the zipper down the side.

Comment by Cleo on October 25, 2007
  16. Lol.. terrible stuff!! Out of them I’ve worn; the jelly shoes, sweater tied around shoulders, bike shorts, overalls & “the rachel” haha.
The worst is big scrunchy hairties – I still see people wearing them!

Comment by Bronnie on October 25, 2007
  17. The Banana Clip. Oh yes.
    Michael Jackson-inspired leather pants.
And a perm that looked like a Michael Jackson-inspired jheri curl. (I cried)

Comment by KC on October 25, 2007
  18. the oversized t-shirt tied over on the side with bike shorts. lord help me.

Comment by lara on October 25, 2007
  19. I love that list! My girls, 15 yr. old twins – have several pairs of Converse’s and love up – they’re back. See ya.

Comment by Kellan on October 25, 2007
  20. When I see Jelly’s all I can think about is the super strange smell the plastic had. Yikes. I totally rocked them though.

Comment by manda on October 25, 2007
  21. I rocked the perm, with the Zena or Jordache jeans with zippers at the ankle with a bright colored Esprit or Limited shirt. Sometimes I got crazy and clipped the perm in a banana clip and wore dangly fluorescent earrings.
And suddenly I’m now humming “Eye of the Tiger”…

  22. all of the above.

Comment by Mrs. Chicken on October 25, 2007
  23. I think you’re a little too young for some of these – I mean, I’m 32 and I was wearing jellies in 4th grade! Or maybe North Georgia is just an avant garde fashion district?

Comment by Cristan on October 25, 2007
  24. Oooo! Good one! I did the legwarmers, the jeans (put safety pins on mine to taper ’em!), the flannel shirt, the converse, the overalls, the Rachel, the jellies, the tie-dye……. I also did the BENETTON SHIRT (long shirt with the belt around it!!!!!!)

    Comment by haley-o on October 25, 2007
  25. OH! And, the fluorescent clothes, and the TIE!!!!

    Comment by haley-o on October 25, 2007
  26. I think All Stars still rock!!

Comment by Nadine on October 26, 2007
  27. All of those except the JJ hat and the “Rachel”. I hated the Rachel.

Comment by mamatulip on October 26, 2007
  28. Oh, ouch.

    Docs, flannel and converse.

Can you tell which group I belonged to in high school?

    Comment by b*babbler on October 28, 2007
  29. Madonna black jelly bracelets.

    Comment by aimee/greeblemonkey on October 29, 2007
  30. Um, I am totally wearing those leg-warmers for Halloween… a double pair; one on my legs and one on my arms. Yes, I am going as Rainbow Brite. ;o)
