to anyone shopping at the superstore on sunday….if you saw a short jewish girl with a horribly peeling forehead and nose, and was wearing flip flops, lululemons, and this shirt:

tank.jpg

chasing after a maniacal toddler, and you were nice to her and smiled at her because you feel bad for the poor, teenaged-pregnant girl who was totally being beaten down by a 2-year-old…

haha!

because she wasn’t really pregnant. she only freakin’ looked it. and she wasn’t really a teenager either. the peeling? embarrasingly true. and the crazy toddler? true as well.

drrr…i guess the joke really is on me. i fell prey to this trend…mostly because my clothing from last year now all looks horribly dated. and not just one year dated. now it’s all starting to look like it’s from the early nineties or something…like i just walked off the set of Blossom or some show like that.

and it’s FINALLY summer. my body – and most of those bodies of women who live in places where the seasons chase – hibernates all winter behind sweaters and turtlenecks. and then, the summer comes. and i have to pull out the summer things and assess what still fits and what doesn’t.

luckily for me, this year, almost everything still fits. which means, i didn’t heifer-out too much this year…but unluckily for me, nothing is in style any more. it’s bad. REAL bad. and there’s NOTHING to buy in the stores that doesn’t make me look a) pregnant of b) fourteen. so, smart girl that i am, managed to buy something that makes me look both.

also…my watch stopped this weekend…and i haven’t a clue why…

come on over to Fabulous today for a huge father’s day picture post. you won’t be sorry. warning: there’s a tremendous amount of bellaboots cuteness.

ha! she even makes counting look cute!

  1. Ooh! This is the first time that I’ve written the first comment on your blog! πŸ™‚ Yes. I can now cross that off of my list of ‘must do’s’ this year πŸ˜‰ bella is sooooo adorable! great counting!

  2. My theory on shirts like that is that they make everyone look pregnant. But … if you have been pregnant already, and therefore worn shirts like that already, you actually KNOW you look pregnant.
I love a shirt kind of like that, and I can’t wear it. I’m convinced people are going to start assuming I’m pregnant.
Though, for my body shape I way prefer that look over the midriff baring look that also, in a way, made me look pregnant πŸ™‚
    Ahhhh … fashion.
I think a nice pair of hot pink crocs would have really made the outfit.

  3. I know!!! All the style of shirts now are exactly like the ones I wore when I was 8 months pregnant.. and they’re sooooo long. And only super skinny fools (you included, me soososososo excluded) can pull them off. But yes, it is a very adolescent-ish look.

Suprisingly enough, I have found some very cute tops at Target this season. Do they have those by you?

  6. I bought five shirts like that at Old Navy. I wore one last week. John said “You look pregnant”. I donated them to charity this morning.

  7. I can honestly say no one has ever mistaken me for a teenage pregnant girl based on what I wear πŸ˜‰ Thank god.

  8. What is with the new clothing making us look pregnant?????

  9. Im sure you were hot, well at least for a pregnant teenager. And that is why I dont bother much with fashion.

  10. I’m pretty sure no one would mistake me for a pregnant teenager, even in that shirt. Maybe a pregnant old chick, but not a teenager. πŸ™‚

  11. Seeing as I am pregnant, I am now inspired to go get a shirt like that!! I am only 2 months along, but hey, when else can I look pregnant and be proud of it?!?

    I am excited!

I am SO not in fashion. It is my theory that slacks and a button down shirt will ALWAYS be in style and therefore have had the same business casual wardrobe for the last 8 years (since I graduated H.S.).
Is that bad? Do slacks and a button down go out of style?? Oh no!

  12. ah yes, the empire waist shirts that make everyone look about five months along. i’ve been trying not too buy them, but they’re so cute, and so trendy, so eventually i gave up and just decided to risk it. as long as aussie boy doesn’t ask when i’m due, i think it’s okay. πŸ˜‰

  14. My COUSIN is a long-haired, cute, height-challenged, Jewish girl in trendy clothes… any chance the two of you are related?

    Hardy har har!!!

I love the ‘Oh!’ look on Bella’s face with the watch. Classic baby cuteness.

  15. Hahaha! And how cute is your little girl!

Great title too. I’d rather look like a pregnant teenager than being caught wearing crocs.

  16. I KNOW
    what is up this season?
You can imagine how weird it was for me to try and buy some post maternity clothes only to find all the stuff IS maternity clothes. It even ties in the back. So bizarre. Do I buy new stuff or just keep wearing my maternity clothes?
