April 23 07

As usual, my weekend was jam packed. lots of park time (the sun finally came out in Toronto..and all three of my kids already have tans), lots of mall time (they need everything! shorts! hats! sandals!), lots of purging time (otherwise known as spring cleaning).

i also went to my very first drive-in.

the only experience i have with drive-ins looks a little bit like this:

no, i’m not kidding. i fully expected to see swings and ads about dancing hot dogs and buns and other concessions. to me, it’s all about the sideburns and the boob-grabbing.

instead, i got to see Will Farrell and Napoleon Dynamite spend a lot of time in tights, blading each other in their…erm twin dongs. yes, folks, we went to see Blades of Glory last night. and it was good times, i tell you, good times.

it was actually so much better than i thought it was going to be. i don’t know if it was the company (Fry and Tova) or if it was the whole experience…but at certain points i was laughing so hard i was crying. Will Farrell’s delivery is just…well, perfect.

it was a double-feature and i don’t even remember what the second movie was. some B-rate horror movie…Disturbia, perhaps?? and after watching more than half of When a Stranger Calls over the weekend (serously…that’s an hour of my life i will never get back) and seeing how shitty horror movies are these days…i was really not all that interested in staying to watch. and either was anyone else, it seemed.

  2. FINALLY YOU SEE THE BEAUTY AND HILARITY OF WILL FERRELL!!! ;) You know he’s my fave! That movie was AWESOME!!!!! Josh and I laughed the whole time! Glad you liked it. Never been to a drive in — so, I still have “Stranded at the Drive in” impressions of what it’d be like. ;)

  5. You’ve never been to a drive-in? Oh, how I wish we had a drive-in near here. LOVE drive-in movies!! Great memories of being a kid in my jammies in the back of the family station wagon, and of stashing friends under blankets and in the trunk to sneak them in when we were teenagers. Good times indeed!

  10. Gawd… I can’t get that crazy Grease song out of my head now. Cus I’m an 80′s girl and only saw that movie 89 times and know every lyric of every song. Yikes.

  11. I love the drive-in! My husband and I used drive about 2 hrs to go see one. We still go and except for the last time (baby wouldn’t sleep in the car) we have always had a good time. Good eats too!

  12. “What will they say… Monday at school.” (Grease is my favorite musical movie EVER)
OMG how in the world have you never been to a drive in? You must be WAY younger than me.(just turned 40) They were all over the place out here (Ft. Worth, TX) but they’ve pretty much died out. My parents used to take us ALL the time. My mother would pop a bunch of popcorn- enough to fill up one of those old paper grocery bags and we’d sit in the back of my dad’s truck or in lawn chairs. Some of my best memories!

  13. I’m so glad that I am the only one that hasn’t been to a drive in.

I have been wearing flip flops since the beginning of April. It is so hard to get a sandal tan.

  15. “Disturbia” is actually not that bad a movie — not completely your typical horror fare, but then again, I haven’t seen that many horror movies since I’m not a blood and gore person. But for a long time, it actually feels like an updated “Rear Window.” Lots of suspense without actually overtly stating anything up until the very end.

Haven’t seen “Blades of Glory.” Not that big a Will Farrell fan, except for in “The Producers” and “Stranger Than Fiction.” But I’m curious now…
