no, friends, the hero in question is this:
i’m fairly certain i’ve discussed that the husband is an Xbox addict. He plays online, against his friends, every night after i’ve gone to sleep. yes, i get to fall asleep to the joyful sounds of the husband talking through his headset…”Oh, my god, Jack, did you see that!!” and “Ed, can you hear me?”
sex-ay. i know.
the last few nights, however, i’ve gone to sleep to the rockin’ sounds of the same song…”Mama’s alright, Daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird…surrender….surrender….”
you see…the husband just got his hot-off-the-press new Guitar Hero II game…and he’s trying to perfect his Cheap Trick. apparently, if you get 100% on a song, you get presents…and who doesn’t like presents?? (although, i’m certain in the gaming world they aren’t called ‘presents’ i think they are actually called achievements or something stupid like that)
anyway, i’ve been laughing at him. giggling as i pass by him in the bedroom, standing in front of the tv, rockin’ out with his bad self with a plastic guitar.
(i should clarify that this, indeed, is the first Guitar Hero. the new one is actually much prettier)
so, i mocked. because that’s what i do. i mock things. a whole hell of a lot. i mock things people wear. i mock the songs they like to listen to. the movies they like. the foods they like to eat. i’m a mocker. sue me.
and then i heard it. he switched songs and on came Possum Kingdom. possibly one of the greatest songs ever to grace my Q101 station back in Chicago, back when i was in high school. obsession is not strong enough of a word to describe how much i was in love with this song. in love with it. and i still am.
and i’m now, officially, a Guitar Hero addict. well…i wouldn’t go that far actually. i’ve only ever played one song (fine…it was about 100 times…but it still was only one song) and i don’t even have a band name yet. i’m thinking Vermicious Knids. (if you get that reference…i’ll give you presents!)
