March 2 07

Toronto is under a snow attack. It didn’t make the news, however, because of awful bus crashes and tornadoes. and it didn’t make the news because Anna Nicole Smith’s body is being flown to the Bahamas and….wait for it…Angelina is adopting again. oh…and Antonella Barba and Sanjaya are STILL on American Idol. what is this world coming to??!!

(ps. i do not think the judges were very happy. while AJ wasn’t my favorite, he could sing poor Sanjaya under the table. and Leslie…i loved her little…”why did i sing skat…america doesn’t appreciate jazz…” loved it! What, i ask y’all, was up with miss kelly pickler’s hair??!! she looked like she was about 90 years old? and was she always that big in the behind? also…i just wanted to thank the american idol stylists for putting a hat over phil stacey’s ears. the boy is not half-bad once you distract me from his spock ears)

but this snowstorm is hitting very close to home. schools are closed today. the kids are home. the husband’s home. and i’m home. it’s my very first snow day since going back to work.

last night i almost died, oh, about 14 times.

we sat in the office (at my window…because, kids, i have a window!) watching as the snow was coming down, praying that the weather forecast was a lie and that the driving conditions outside were going to be a breeze. i left early, at 3:15…so i could give myself some extra time and drive slowly.

i was so not prepared for what ensued. i was driving the civic…the car with the stick shift…the bane of my existence. i was sliding all over the place…and seemed to have zero crontrol over the car. i was only driving at about 20 km an hour and was still slipping and sliding. i was sweating. and freezing. at the same time. i was holding on to the wheel for dear life (as if that was going to save me).

i spun out 5 times. no, i’m not kidding. there was a higher power watching over me last night, i tell you. i was so lucky that in all of my spin-outs that no one hit me…because most of ‘em were pretty darn close. i was terrified. and i started to panic. i had horrific flashes of spinning off the highway exit into a ditch. or spinning through a red light and getting pummeled by oncoming traffic. i thought the worst.

i finally made it home, an hour and a half later. mark my words, friends. i am never driving that civic in the snow again. i’d rather walk to work.

  1. That is so scary, about Angelina adopting again! No, I’m kidding :) Can’t believe your drove in the snow in a tin can, so glad you made it ok. We had some snow too, made me wish like crazy for spring to come.

  4. First off…glad you are ok! SCARY! Second…Antonella & Sanjaya need a bullet. IRRITATING they are still here another week. Third…Picklers hair WAS weird…and so were her newly formed boobs. I thought Ryans question about what she had spent her money on was hilarious. Her behind DID look bigger.

  5. I canNOT believe you were out in that weather IN THE CIVIC — which you can barely drive on a GOOD-WEATHER day ;). I’m so glad you’re okay!!!!!!!

And, yeah, Sanjaya — oh man…. And, I’m glad Antonella Barba’s sticking around. She’s so perty!

  7. Don’t ya just love winter driving. I missed most of AI, didn’t even get to see the night that the girls sang. I felt so bad for that one girl though, she couldn’t even sing after she got eliminated….that is just sad

  8. i don’t miss driving in the snow. the last winter i lived in Connecticut, we had a snowstorm that made the governor “shut down the state” so we all were sent home from work. what was normally a 35 minute commute took upwards of three *hours*, sandwiched between tractor trailer trucks. i thought if i didn’t spin out & die on my own, surely one of them was bound to jack-knife & take me out with it. somehow i survived. i think it was clinging to that trusty steering wheel. why *do* we do that anyway??

  9. Snow day here in Montreal too Ali!
I left to go to work early, 6:30, to beat the traffic. 15 mins from home my car STALLED on the bridge, this is a looooooong bridge over the water, and I was stuck there in my Golf, fortunatley on the shoulder. No.Cell.Phone. 10 mins later, cop comes, Hi .. I need a tow! 20 mins later, tow truck comes … $140 later, car is awaitign at garage to get checke as to what is wrong. Call mom, wake her up, she comes to pick me up, we go to school where my son was dropped off by dh to go to daycare (no school) there are 12 children there (out of 600)..take him home, he’s chilling with cartoons. Got to love SNOW DAYS, not.. very EXPENSIVE!!!

  11. Sean had a meeting on Wellington at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. His bitch of a boss didn’t cancel it.
He arrived home just before 10.
It hasn’t stopped snowing here all day. Luckily our schools were open.

  12. ok 20km an hr works out to what?

The problem with the civic was the stick shifting, way too much extra work to do, though im glad your safe now

  13. I’m so glad you made it home safe. After spinning out myself a few years ago and sitting in a ditch with my then 4 year old for 2 hours watching cars spin out in my direction, I know how terrifying that can be.

I think Sanjay should have go the ax, not poor AJ. And I think Kelly Pickler’s dress was just a size too small, it looked pretty strained!

  14. hope the snow doesn’t hammer you too bad. We are getting some light snow here. I would take a picture but I still don’t have my camera. I keep wanting to get rid of my jeep and my brothers keep asking me what I will do in the winter. Okay I will keep it lol

  15. Good grief! Your drive to work sounds TERRIFYING!
Leslie was funny – I’ll miss her. Did you catch Ryan staring straight at Kellie’s gigantic fake boobs when he asked her if there what she’d bought with her money?

  16. Yikes! Was it all snow or did you have ice too? I think ice is worse to drive on because you slide no matter what kind of vehicle you have. Luckily we haven’t had a lot of bad weather this winter…knock on wood.

AI was interesting. I like a lot of the girls and a few of the boys. I could not believe they kept that slutty girl on there. She can’t sing worth crap!!! And Ryan S.’s question to Kellie Pickler about what she’s been spending money on was PRICELESS!!!!!!
