No, this isn’t a joke. My 5-year-old DID, in fact, ask me this question yesterday. The laughter was uncontrollable.

So, I was tagged by Beth over at Thoughts Arrive Like Butterflies. And since I love me some midwestern girls, I cannot say no. And since I also love to take things up a notch (BAM!), I thought I’d change this meme up a little. You are supposed to list your 5 favorite Christmas songs and then tag five people to do the same. I thought I’d list my 5 favorites and my 5 least favorites too. (hey…..IT2M people….I’m using my shift key! You like?)

Five Favorites (not in any order):

1. Oh Holy Night – Celine Dion. I’m usually not a big Celine fan, but she really knocks it out of the park with this one. I love the song in general, and her version is probably the best i’ve heard. so powerful. and just lovely to listen to.

2. What Child Is This – Sarah McLachlan. Could i love Sarah any more? This is just a beautiful song.

3. Believe – Josh Groban. from Polar Express. i love his voice. the words to this song. love.

4. Angels We Have Heard on High. so nice. even the Christina Aguilera version, if you can believe it.

5. Christmas Shoes – Newsong. i know, i know. everyone hates it. but, i don’t know. there’s something about it. brings me to tears every time i hear it.

Five Least Favorites:

1. Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney. I wrote about this last week. and how I want to erase this song from existence completely.

2. The Chipmunk Song – David Seville and The Chipmunks. I seriously want to tear my hair out when I hear this song…ooh…I want a hooooooooola hooooooooop….yikes.

3. Last Christmas – Wham! the lyrics! the synthesizer! this song reeks of bad 80’s rock.

4. Feliz Navidad – Jose Feliciano.

5. Here Comes Santa Claus. dumbest song ever written. Seriously? Santa Claus lane? seriously?

mmm..now for the tagging part….i’m gonna go with Beck, Becca, Janet, Lisa, and Samantha. Enjoy!

Survivor

~that ending could not have played out better for Jeff Probst and all his henchmen. it was a brilliant move. blindsiding them into a final three. meant that, as per usual, the person with immunity – in this case, Ozzy – couldn’t eliminate the stronger of the two and take the weaker one – Becky (read: no votes! no votes! she got NO votes!) – to the final 2. insant victory. no! in this case it was decided by one vote! one vote! two totally deserving players. Ozzy – the strongest physical player ever – and Yul – the strongest mental game player ever. Fantastic. and then there was smug old Becky all “vote for me…because i’m social…” yeah, whatever, Beckers.

~Ozzy = hotter on Cook Islands. he looked like a fish out of water last night.

~Jonathan=Steve Carrell

~model boxing might be up there with fire dancer and rollergirl. also? her last name is Shallow. could that be any better? i think not!

~i love how Adam, the copier salesman, talks about other people being boring. he.

  2. I was so disoriented by the tag, that I forgot to mention that ‘nippletoe’ is my new favorite item on the holiday market. I need to get me some.

Comment by Janet a.k.a Wonder Mom on December 18, 2006
  3. Oh.my.goodness! Thank you for that laugh. Nippletoe. Gotta get me some of that.

But, where are the final snarks for Survivor? Don’t tell me you didn’t watch it!?!

Comment by Jeff on December 18, 2006
  4. Nippletoe. Heh 😉

Comment by Chris on December 18, 2006
  5. And if that title doesn’t bring in readers by the hundreds, I don’t know what will. What a chuckle.

Comment by Michelle on December 18, 2006
  6. Nippletoe? That’s hilarious!

Poor ol’ Beckers, can’t even make fire with matches. How friggin’ embarrassing!

Poor Ozzy looked very odd last night.

    Yay Yul! Completely deserving.

How long do we have to wait for Fiji?

  7. The nippletoe, eh?
I love being tagged, especially when I’m kind of hazy on what to blog about. Consider it done!
You know I’m with you on the Paul McCartney Christmas song hatred, but I don’t think that I’ve ever heard the Wham one. Lucky me.

Comment by Rebecca on December 18, 2006
  8. Don’t you just love the names kids come up with for things? Nippletoe……..that one is a classic. Especially when thinking of the old classic Christmas Song

“I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus, underneath the nippletoe last night”………hmmmm…..could be grounds for divorce, huh?

Comment by Iris on December 18, 2006
  9. LMFAO! the NIPPLE TOE! BWAHAHHAHAHHAA.. i would have peed from laughing so hard!

Comment by jennster on December 18, 2006
  10. I loved the christmas shoes song last year … right up until christmas eve when a friend of mine died. Now I hate the song for no other reason than the fact that I can’t hear it without crying my eyes out every single time. I don’t think it’s very nice to play such depressing songs this time of year.

Regarding Feliz Navidad. I, too, think this song is lame. Repetitive, boring, stupid. And the thing that annoys me most about it is that my high school men’s choir used to sing it every year and they would sing it soooooo slooooowwww. As if those boys couldn’t pronounce the spanish words quick enough. If you’re going to sing such an annoying song, the least you could do is sing it at the proper upbeat tempo rather than dragging it out and making it far longer than it needs to be.

And, just so this comment isn’t 100% negative, “nippletoe” made me laugh so hard. Thank you!

Comment by Audrey on December 18, 2006
  11. Nippletoe!! LMAO! Oh that is phenomenal! Reminds me of when we lived in CA and my sister took the garbage out to the cans and comes racing back inside screaming, “Dad! Dad! There’s faggots in the garbage can!” And my dad said, “I’m pretty sure you mean maggots…”

    LMAO!

Comment by Beth on December 18, 2006
  12. I was rootin’ for Ozzy, but I can see why Yul won it. Him showing everyone he had the hidden idol was *brilliance* and it carried him through the game.

Comment by mamatulip on December 18, 2006
  13. first of all. how could you not mention the embarrassing, pathetic, and equally horrifying tie breaker at tribal?! and what about jeff’s reaction?! moving on.love, love, love song of the bells played by the trans-siberian orchestra. by the way, did you know that they are a bunch of people from ny? christmas shoes i heard last year and makes me cry. every single time. especially when the little kids start singing. i’m choking up just thinking about it. hate, hate, hate, walking in a winter wonderland. i can’t quite place my finger on it, but something about that song really annoys me.

Comment by Adrienne on December 18, 2006
  14. Me??? Swoon
Ok I didn’t win your blanket but I know where I can get one anyway.
And that Wham song is going on my top 5 so there!

Comment by lisa b on December 18, 2006
  15. I’m such an idiot. I didn’t know the Survivor finale was on last night. I just caught it around 9:30… totally happy Yul won. I liked Ozzy but I liked Yul better. Ozzy was definitely hotter on the island. I didn’t know Adam was a copier salesman, thanks for pointing it out!

  16. Thanks for the tag Ali!! I got mine up.

    OMG. LMAO. Nippletoe. That’s adorable!

    Comment by s@m on December 18, 2006
  17. Love Sarah….but the Christmas music is WAY overplayed at Starbucks (AKA my morning office). On the first night of Hanukkah, my friend gamely tried to play Israeli music and we decided the only thing that could make it tolerable would be if the Chipmunks sang it. Lots of Chipmunks speaking Yiddish around the table ensued!

Comment by Di on December 18, 2006
  18. Josh Groban could sing the McDonald’s menu beautifully.

I can tolerate Feliz Navidad, but not repeatedly in the mix. The rest of your least favorites would be on my list as well.

Comment by Sparky on December 19, 2006
  19. Christmas Shoes??? Yikes – if there’s one song that really makes the superpower of Christmas-song-obliteration-from-existence worthwhile, it would be this one.

Amazing the way Ozzy transformed into Joey Lawrence after he returned to the mainland, eh? I was so glad that Yul won – it was great to see the Yul/Ozzy head-to-head, and it never would have happened without the three-person final. Everything about this season was just Mark Burnett’s wet dream – the way the race element played out, the final match-up, even the excruciating fire challenge: just brilliant television.

Comment by bubandpie on December 19, 2006
  20. Isn’t that every man’s dream? A kiss under the nippletoe. My husband thought it was a hoot.

Comment by Michelle on December 19, 2006
  21. I just watched it last night. All of it. Went through an entire box of kleenex (sickie…). It was awesome. I LOVE that Yul won. I LOVE how you said Ozzy looked like a fish out of water in the results show –HA! You so funny! I can’t believe how gorj Sundra is….Looks like Angelina Jolie (but, she did overdo the hair and makeup). Love how Jeff corrected himself with a chuckle when he said “Poverty” in the reunion show…. 😉

    Comment by haley-o on December 20, 2006
  22. Ok, my mother was YELLING at the TV for Ozzy to win! I kept going in the room to tell her he couldn’t hear her, but she said she didn’t care and kept on a-yellin!

  23. Mine’s up!

  24. I just could not leave a comment after I roared out loud in laughter by your title! LMAO!

Also, I was only going to mention how I love Sarah MacLachlan’s song as well, but find it a little ironic that as I write this the damn chipmunk song has come on here at work! AHHHHH!!!!! LOL!
