this will officially be the last time you will hear me talk about the South Beach diet. no, seriously. i swear.

these past two weeks (i know, i know. It seems like i’ve been on this freakin’ diet for months. not weeks, right?) have proven two things. a) i have serious willpower. i was so good. no carbs. no sugar. at all. and b) the diet does not work for everyone. it just doesn’t.

I promised the husband that i’d wait it out the two weeks. and i did. and the grand total of pounds lost was 3 1/2. and the grand total of pounds gained was 3 1/2. which means, essentially, that when i got on the scale on sunday morning two weeks ago i weighed x. and when i got on the scale yesterday morning i weighed the exact same fucking x. i didn’t gain weight on south beach (silver lining.) but i didn’t lose any either.

so, i’m officially off. last night i went to jack and ilana’s and had ribs (with sugar-filled bbq sauce) and a cookie. mmm…my first cookie in two weeks. and it was divine.

and guess what? this morning i was down two pounds.

truth be told, i have learned something from the ways of the south beach. i liked the way i felt while i was on it. not on the outside, but on the inside. my body felt good. i had lots of energy (even though you are supposed to have less energy during the first two weeks). i just felt good. i felt like my body was healthy for the first time in a really long time. maybe even ever.

so, my plan from here is to try to make better choices with food. to not sit down and eat three doughnuts (because i can) or 4 slices of pizza (because i do). i’m going to try to fill my body with good things, instead of the crap i’ve been filling it with for years. more whole grains. more vegetables. more fruit. less cookies and cake and crap.

if nothing else, these two weeks taught me that i’d like to eat better. but, at the end of the day, my body and my brain seem to need some carbs and sugar. yes, i’d like to eat better, but life is way too short not to enjoy the good things. like lattes and lemon poppy seed cake. mmm…cake…

ahem…did you vote today?

  5. Hey, there. Sounds like a good plan to just try to eat better foods and whatnot. I’m impressed with your willpower. I could never do it. Never in a million years.

  7. I like your new philosophy! I like the everything in moderation diet…or the 80/20 rule.

  8. Must ask….ever since your new blog opened, there is a box right in the middle of your page (custom blog design by…blah, blah, etc.) I cannot move it, close it, or read what is behind it. For example, in today’s entry I don’t know how many pounds were gained on the SB diet, or whatever your wrote after that! Is there anyway to get rid of this? It’s like having a grease stain in the middle of a great book!

  9. Moderation is the key, as someone else mentioned. There is nothing wrong with having a cookie. There is something wrong with having a BAG of cookies!
