Daddy: Isabella, what do you want for dinner, sweets?

Isabella: Pizza! and Pickles!

Daddy: What? are you pregnant?

nannyHaydee: Isabella? Do you have a baby in your tummy?

Isabella: not anymore. Remember, Haydee….the DRAGON ate it?!

sigh.

that’s life with Missabella. just like a box of chocolates…i certainly never know what i’m going to get.

upsode

ps. i kind of hate that Forrest Gump quote…because seriously, boxes of chocolates come with MAPS so you pretty much know EXACTLY what you are going to get. and my sister and i can attest to this. For years, my dad would buy hundreds of boxes of Godiva chocolates to give to nurses and receptionists and various gynecologically-related people that he worked with. and the leftovers? well, they would be hidden in a back closet in the basement.

godiva

until my sister and i found them. and took bites out of every single one. because everyone knows there are no calories in just a bite. and that way you get to sample ALL instead of just picking one.

(and pps…i don’t even like chocolate) (it really was just about the chance that we might get caught, um, brown-handed?) (bring on the google searches)

oh, wait, i have another totally unrelated question..

is it bad that i have been married for TEN YEARS and i still can’t call my inlaws by their first names?

oh, also, i believe i promised you some video of my miss Emily doing the twist as the best darn dreidel ever.

can you tell which one is Emily???? 😉

  1. why miss Emily has the best timing – and twist! (she’s the one to the left of the green one in the middle right?)

my older sister used to squish every chocolate t’il she found one that was non-squishable and then eat that one. Nice.

  5. Your dad bought the really good chocolate where the chocolate has little carved out sections to sit in. My mom bought the cheaper version where once you ate about a third of them, the rest tumbled around the box (especially if you used that box to whap your little brother in the head) and THEN, you never knew what you were gonna get. And nobody wanted that nougat one that tasted like peaches.

  8. God help me, chocolate is good. Except that Russell Stover stuff. That stuff is nasty!

As fate would have it, I had pizza and pickles for dinner last night. Surprisingly delicious!

  9. Oh kids and their imaginations! Isabella sounds like she is going to be full of those ‘what??!!; moments throughout life. haha.
Oh, and Emily…clearly the one in the middle with the perfect timing and fabulous rythym.

  10. Pickles? Pizza? Baby eating dragons? Sounds like some bizarre immaculate conception story gone awry!

And you don’t like chocolate. Hmmm. Time to test for aliens. You’re not a pod people are you? 🙂

  11. I love Isabella. She’s so my favorite. It must be the name. Isabella, Kristabella.

The CHEAP chocolates do not have a map. At one of my old jobs we would get tons of boxes of chocolates sent to us and we would only eat the ones from See’s because they had the map.

We would also eat the ones filled with liquor. We’d get the interns drunk. Good times.

  13. I don’t call my in-laws anything. Occasionally Grandma and Grandpa, but both their first names and ‘Mom & Dad’ make me super uncomfortable. And they are totally aware of it. 14 years…

  15. I never bothered with the maps. That took all the fun out of it.

  16. Isabella is adorable. I like the candy maps, too, but usually caramel and marshmallow are square, so if I have to pick quickly, I go for them. (I am an experienced chocolate eater.)

I call my in-laws Mom & Dad. I asked them if I could when I was drunk at my wedding. 🙂

  17. I’m always so glad to find another person who doesn’t really like chocolate. It’s kind of like being a leper.

My inlaws want me to call them “Mom” and “Dad” and I just CAN’T!!

  18. The dragon ate it? What exactly is she learning over there???

I love the twisting. Very cute. No clue what they were saying, but your kid was definitely the cutest. By far.

  22. Wow, a baby-eating dragon make her not pregnant, but she still wants pizza and pickles? Impressive.

I’ve been married for almost six years and I have a hard time with what to call the in-laws, too. Their first names seem forced, Mom & Dad just isn’t going to happen and well, I don’t have many other options.

  23. Yeah, I started calling my MIL “Mom” before my husband and I got married, 8 years ago. (She’s been more of a mother to me than my own, so it felt natural.) Freaked my not-yet-husband out though! LOL

Comment by Nenette on December 20, 2008
  24. She’s the one right in the middle…right?

I totally call my in-laws Joan and Ken. Then again, they aren’t polite Canucks 😉

  25. I like peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. I had one for lunch yesterday even. Yum.

I call my MIL Winnie – her first name. Not usually Mom unless we’ve been drinking and are being silly.
btw – she and my BIL are on their way here, but there’s a really bad snow storm so they got suck 87 miles away. sucks.

  26. I’ve been with my husband for 10 years. I always called his dad by his first name, but I met his dad when I was, like, 5, so it was natural. However, his mom has a double name; Danalea; some people call her Dana, others call her Danalea, her family calls her Sissy…I literally called her, “hey you” until the past couple of years and occasionally I come out with “Momma Dana”, which still doesn’t feel natural, but gets her attention in crowds much better.
