Heather (and Mike too!) needs your love today (technically yesterday, but written last night, yo). She needs it every day; but today especially. It’s been one month since Maddie’s passing. Of course, there are many ways to give Heather some love today. emails, tweets, candy. Or you can head on over here and bid away on some AWESOME products.

bad

As for me, I’m going to give Heather a little love today (and some of her requested alimartell humor) by making book on a promise I made to her a long, long time ago. Back when Heather posted some, um, awesome pictures from her childhood that may or may not have included some bangs and a visor, I promised her I would dig up some of mine, that may or may not have included a Joey Jeremiah hat and, um, a perm.

oh

There really are no words, people.

(anyone want to take a stab at what YEAR this was?)

the pink shorts! the crop shirt! the high-waisted belted pair of shorts! the scrunchie! and don’t even get me started on the get-up that I am sporting (what you can’t see in this picture…my layered socks and reebok hi-tops) (at least I am only wearing a matching pajama top and bottom…I could be sporting my UNITS gear) (oh, like you never) in this random shot of us posing in front of a limo during one of our Mintzfamilyvacations. Of course, our family vacations didn’t include any Wagon Queen Family Trucksters…

vacation-truckster

but they were full of just as many highjinks and shenanigans. I mean, the LA trip was the one were my brother and I got kicked out of the Beverly Hills Hotel for dancing the roger rabbit in the lobby. It was the one where we followed every green range rover in the city because we had heard that Tom Cruise drove one. It was the one where my cousin Sarah stuffed a roll under her chin at a fancy restaurant so she could reach the butter (oh, wait, no, i think that was Myrtle Beach). It was the one where we made a mortifying video of us singing songs from Dirty Dancing in which I may or may not be wearing black and white biker shorts with a puffy-painted shirt. and it may have been neon.

  1. So much makes so much sense now. I mean, no one could live through that outfit without SOME kind of emotional scarring.

  3. Whatever. I wish bike shorts and puff paint were still in.

  4. LOVE IT. I, too, had a puffy-paint outfit in the 80s that I thought was the best thing ever. There were purple leggings with a matching purple sweatshirt, with puffy paint glitter, um, art, on the sweatshirt. AND, the sweatshirt came with a clip through which you could stuff the sweatshirt and make it look like, ahh..a knot? The more I describe the more heinous it sounds and I am glad there is no photographic evidence of it anywhere. You are a brave, brave woman!

  7. I’m ashamed I had to look up Joey Jeremiah! I weep for the fact my parents never had cable!

Love that your brother looks like early Backstreet Boys-era Nick Carter, but I love your Duggar girl perm more!

  8. that picture is all kinds of wow. I say we bring it back one clothing item at a time. Start with the hat. Although I sort of wish you weren’t wearing the hat just so we could see how hardcore your perm really was.

  10. HAHAHAHAHAAAA! this is the best thing I have ever seen.

Also, apropos of your puffy paint issues, have I ever told you about my short-lived stint as a door-to-door puffy paint shirt saleswoman?

  16. At first I was all like, “Hey that looks like Chevy Chase.”. Then I was all like, “…oh.”

I thought you were still busting out the old photos of yourself and I was going to complain that I couldn’t see you. That’s when I was all like, “Hey that looks like Chevy Chase…”
