September 3 13

Last year, the first day of school started with lots of nerves, both on my part and on theirs. It was a new school. We didn’t know anyone, we didn’t know where to go.

This year, we walked to the back of the school and three children—a seventh grader, a sixth grader, and a third grader—gave me a quick hug and a “See ya Mama!” and then raced over to their friends.

I think I’m gonna like this year.

I think they are too.

Even if I make them hold up goofy signs.
