we’ll all heard this question before…and most people have the same stock answers. Jesus. Einstein. Hitler. Martin Luther King. my grandmother. George Washington.

so…i hereby give you my list of people i’d like to dine with. some are outside the box, while some, like Miss Frank, most definitely stay inside the box.

1. Bruce Wayne – dude is getting outed. but which bruce to invite? Michael Keaton? Val Kilmer? George Clooney? Christian Bale? or shall we go old school and invite Adam West?

2. Anne Frank

3. Elvis Presley – the tubby version

4. Oprah – I want to talk about the couch jumping/Tom Cruise incident. and the James Frey incident. and her magicians make-up artists who make her go from:

to this:

5. Kurt Cobain

6. Holly Golightly

7. Britney Spears

8. Bono

9. Robin Williams – only for the Bono side-by-side comparison

10. Dane Cook – but only if he’s ordering the chicken sangwich. and asking for ketchup.

11. Takero Kobayashi – does this one really need explanation?

12. Barbie – so we can talk about what has become of her dynasty. and how she feels about whore barbie. (she can come out of the box for the meal. i’ll allow it)

13. Abe Lincoln

wanna come? it’s going to be a grand ole time.

who would you invite??

-
  1. The entire family involved in the “Flowers in the Attic” book series, Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble, Laura Ingalls Wilder…and Mae West.

  9. Love your list! I’d have to add Michael Landon.

    Happy T13!

  10. I love your list…and I’d love to have the services of Oprah’s magicians too. For my list, I’d have to have Lucille Ball, Ron Howard, Elizabeth Bennet (from Pride and Prejudice) and Bridget Jones just to name a few. Great TT. Happy thursday!

  12. Hilarious! I love that you added Kobayashi. We love him in our house (oh the drama over the jaw arthritis!)
I would add Jann Arden to my list because I have always thought she’d be fun to have dinner with.

  13. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SEEN OR MET KURT COBAIN.

Comment by JENNIFR on November 8, 2007
  14. I USED to have a list. Now I realize that most of the people on my list would intimidate the crap out of me.

Comment by Rebecca on November 8, 2007
  15. Haha! Really, you should combine some of the dinners. Like lunch with Anne Frank AND Britney together! That could be fun.

Comment by Nadine on November 8, 2007
  16. Bossy would invite John Cusack and then distribute twelve other invites to the wrong addresses. No need to crowd a romantic dinner for two.

Comment by BOSSY on November 8, 2007
  17. 1. Curt Cobain of course
    2. John Mayer
    3. Beck
    4. Fiona Apple
    5. Walt Disney (not just his frozen brain)
    6. Scott Weiland

Apparently all musicians and Walt Disney

  18. Good post as always Al… i’ve never even thought of a list, but you and Haley-O would be on it for sure! I KNOW that would be good time!

  19. Kobayashi? Reaaly? Huh!

Comment by Jennifer on November 8, 2007
  20. I am dying over here over the Bono/Robin Williams thing. I never noticed that before. Hah! Great list!! I can only imagine Abe’s reaction to Britney!

Comment by Jen on November 8, 2007
  21. Great list…Bono=Robin Williams frightens me…you can dine with Bono…Don’t go with RW!

Comment by Cynthia on November 8, 2007
  22. i think for your next TT, you should put together a dinner party of bloggers! actually, wait, i’ll just do it myself. ha! no stealing! 😛

Comment by lara on November 8, 2007
  23. That’d be a heck of a dinner. I’d love to join you for it!

Btw, did you know that Malcolm, at Pop Culture Dish, has a poll up, asking which Batman you prefer? Might want to check it out…

    Happy TT!

  24. That’s so funny you should say that about Oprah! I’ve been wondering the same thing lately! I’d want to go to dinner with Mehmet Oz — he’s tell me EXACTLY how to lose my preggo weight….

    Comment by Haley-O on November 9, 2007
  25. ooh i like this!! cool idea.
    1. Oprah
    2. Holly Golightly
    3. Reese Witherspoon
    4. Hugh Grant
    5. Marion Keyes
    6. Frank McCourt
    7. Dooce
    8. Ron Weasley

Hmm.. i need to think about the rest!

Comment by Bronnie on November 9, 2007
  26. Please put Anne Frank far away from Britney…because Anne, of course, will always be 14 and we don’t want Britney to corrupt her.

Can Holly Golightly bring Audrey Hepburn with her? The work she did during the later years of her life with UNICEF was truly inspirational…and completely selfless. I don’t think it was done with an ounce of self-promotion.

Can I add Crash Davis (from Bull Durham) to the list? You don’t have to set extra places at the table for us…I think we’ll hang out in another room in your house. 600 thread count sheets would be a nice touch!

Comment by Di on November 9, 2007
  27. I positively adored the old school Batman show as a kid. KERPOW! WHAM! Robin is totally on my list of people that aren’t real that I’d… you know.

Comment by Sarah on November 9, 2007
  28. I did this for a TT some months ago and like you I didn’t bother with the obvious ones – Jesus, Einstein etc. Though it did occur to me tat I’d get Jesus to do the catering. As much wine as I wanted as long as I could provide the water.

Out of your list, I’d definitely invite Lincoln, but none of the others really do much h for me, except maybe Anne Frank, though I don’t know if I’d want a child at an adult dinner party. Some of yours I haven’t even heard of. It would be interesting, though, to see B Spears and Abraham Lincoln making conversation. Such an articulate, intelligent man chatting to such an empty-headed waste of space!

Comment by Nicholas on November 9, 2007
  29. I know I’m a bit late to this post but I’ve just come across it and I quite enjoyed it. I’m not sure who my 13 would be. I’m really into music (as you can see) so I’d probably have a lot of musical people. I’d say Beethoven but I don’t know if he spoke English so that might not work out. I’d definitely include Syd Barrett though (of the first Pink Floyd), all of the Beatles (I’m already up to 5), Elvis, Michael Jackson, Brian Wilson… OK that’s 8. How about some politicians. Yeah. I’d like to meet Abe Lincoln & George Washington. That’d be interesting. Oh, another musician – Jimi Hendrix. OK – I’m at 11. Um… Benjamin Franklin. He seems like he’d be an interesting fella to chat with. Oh and my final.. #13 would be Henry David Thorough.
